Chuck Renner sat slumped against the grimy brick wall outside of the store front across the street he could see the blood splattered Lincoln Memorial. He had no strength and no will at the present moment. He was covered in blood most of it he was pretty sure was not his but some of it was.
The body…or half of the body of Melody a young woman who he had met in the city lay next to him. Her head had been smashed against the concrete causing her brain matter to splatter across the ground. The rest of her was a bundle of torn ligaments and destroyed flesh. The pare had been attacked out of nowhere a few hours before hand by a group of zombies. They had canvassed the area for some time and thought it to be remotely safe at least for them to break into the shop get supplies and head out again they had been very very...very wrong.
They had been attacked from out of nowhere and the group of rancid smelling zombies had quickly gotten the upper hand as they had not been expecting any company. Chuck had been slammed none too gracefully against the wall he now found himself leaning against when he had lost consciousness. He had awoken what he would guess to be a few hours later and had found the grizzly sight of what once was Melody next to him. He felt his stomach clench as he tried to push himself up off the wall. It was only a matter of seconds before he heaved on the sidewalk next to him.
It was times like this when he wondered if he wouldn’t be better off dead at least then there would be an end to all the madness which had engulfed the world. He clenched his eyes shut trying to steady his breathing and regain his wits about him. He knew he couldn’t stay here out in the open or sooner or later more would be back.
He heard a low rumble and his heart nearly skipped a beat as he immediately realized the rumble was the sound of a car and by the sound of it it was getting closer. He breathed deeply and clenched his eyes shut as he hoisted himself off the ground leaning heavily against the wall as the world around him spun out of control. He limped away from the wall a shooting pain tearing through his leg but he could hear the car approaching and he knew he had to get within sight of them. The side of his face was slick with blood and his clothes were splattered with blood as well.
He stumbled into the street as the car came speeding into view hoping upon hope that whoever was driving saw him in front of them on the street or he was a dead man. Either way at this point he was willing to risk it.
He voice in the back of his head told him to get the hell out of the way but the image burned into his head of Melody splattered upon the sidewalk and everyone else he had seen brutally torn apart kept him rooted in his spot. This was the point of no return you could say either he would live or not but things were going to move in one direction or the other.
He clenched his eyes shut waiting for one of the events to happen.
“Please stop, please stop, please stop,” he whispered over and over to himself as the seconds ticked by.
