Neil pulled the Hummer he had been driving to a stop in the short term lot closest to the International Airport's terminal. Already he could see that the airport had not been the scene of a happy party. He was fairly creeped out to be running this mission.
Neil suspected that the part of the drive he'd hated the most was through the suburbs leading from the city to the airport. There was so many destroyed stores, malls, restaurants, houses-all scenes where people had once had real lives with real families. It made him remember that he had once had a real life. Maybe, just maybe, he'd out to his old house. Rob had done it. Well....actually, that didn't make it a good idea. Neil remembered his friend's reaction to that. It had not been good. Neil kept wondering if it was a bad thing that all he could think of about his house was that Ava's house plants were probably dead. Like they were the only dead thing anymore.
Neil walked just inside of the smashed in glass doors. Turning left would take him back to the parking areas. Turning right would head into the terminal. From where he stood, he could see racks of overturned magazines and what appeared to be food on the floor. Well, if nothing else, this would probably be a damned good supplies mission.
"Rob!" He yelled over his shoulder. "You ready?"

Rob had stayed silent for a majority of the ride from the the Steel Building to the airport. There were about a million and one things racing through his mind and he couldn't even pretend he knew which one to grab on to first and what to make of it. He had been holding out hope for what felt like forever to be able to see his wife and son again...and his sister and hie couldn't stand to think that it wasn't an option any longer. Faith had kept him fighting through these months and it was truley the only thing he had to go on.
They had to be alive.
Rob had sat silently in the passenger seat when Neil had pulled the Hummer to a stop at the airport and even after his friend had gotten out Rob had stayed back for several moments trying to get himself pieced together and prepared...but then again there was no real was to be set for this no matter he hoped there was.
"Rob!...You ready?"
Neil's voice quickly snapped Rob back into the here and now and he slung his backpack over his shoulder and shoved himself out of the car and towards Neil.
"As ready as I'm gonna be," Rob replied with what he hoped was a convincing smile as he walked up to Neil and took stock of the mess which had once been the airport.

One of the main reasons Neil was opposed to this entire trip was that he was afraid for what they'd find. He suspected that a lot of people had been trying to get into the city-and get out. And with all of those people, there had to have been a ton of zombies. He didn't know what they'd encounter.
He watched calmly as Rob got out of the car. Neil was extremely worried for his friend. He knew just how much his wife, son and sister meant to Rob. Neil wasn't sure what would happen if they found one of them dead-or undead-as the case unfortunately tended to be.
"You know something?" Neil called, checking his pocket to assure that his hand gun was tucked safely inside. "If we had the time to scavage through all the abandoned luggage in this place, we could really stock up."
He swung his rifle carefully over her shoulder and turned to look at Rob.
"Not thinking there's going to be much of a line at security."
